ISLAMABAD – Former prime minister and PTI chairman Imran Khan was slammed for twisting a recent visit of Pakistani expatriates to Israel for his political gains.
It all started when Israeli President Isaac Herzog during a session at the World Economic Forum revealed that he held a meeting with a delegation that included Pakistani expats who live in the US.
Making Herzog’s statement as base of his argument, he said that the incumbent Shehbaz Sharif-led government is going to recongise Israel. He claimed that an employees of Pakistan’s state-run television was also part of the delegation.
However, the Foreign Office has rejected the notion that any official Pakistan delegation visited Tel Aviv.
Anila Ali, a Pakistani-American author and politician who was part of the delegation, took to Twitter to respond to Khan’s statement.
Addressing the PTI chief, she said: “We were a group of Pakistani American interfaith women leaders”.
Ali also asked Khan to stop “using us as a tool to distract #Pakistanis with disinformation”.
“Fight your own political battles viz a viz the 1. Malik Riaz tape, 2. Dr. Mazari’s 3. Failure of #PTI March,” she added.
As American Muslims & citizens of the US, Pakistani, Bangladeshi, Malaysian heritage, we went to #Israel to build bridges of peace between Muslims & Jews & create interfaith harmony. Don’t send disinformation @ImranKhanPTI Sb. Allah stands with truth.
